Can you have your Partner Visa reviewed after it’s been lodged?
It’s not uncommon to want to have your Partner Visa checked after it’s been lodged. And it’s not true that once your Partner Visa is lodged, there’s nothing more you can do other than wait.

Reversing the process
Instead of starting with planning and coming up with a tailored checklist, we begin by reviewing what has already been submitted.

- Potential red flags or weaknesses
- What may trigger Department concerns
- Whether additional evidence should be uploaded now
From there, we provide strategic feedback on how to strengthen the application moving forward.
In my experience, most couples who use the Academy for post-lodgement reviews are surprised to learn that there’s still a lot they can do after lodgement to improve the overall quality of their case.
Access to the portal
One of the biggest benefits of joining the Partner Visa Academy is having access to the Academy portal. So you’re not just receiving feedback on your application, you also have access to all the resources we provide to teach couples how to prepare the application.
Inside the portal, you can work through step-by-step training videos that explain the entire application process, understand what the Department is looking for across the four pillars of relationship, and access practical guidance on how to present evidence clearly. The portal also includes templates for relationship statements, example documents, checklists, upload guidance, and detailed explanations that help couples understand both the strategy and structure behind a well-prepared application.
For many couples, this becomes incredibly valuable because they finally understand why certain evidence matters and how to present it properly.
What we look for during the review
It’s not just about showing that your documents exist, we look at the application in a way that a case officer would.
That means we are assessing whether your relationship evidence tells a clear story. We look at your relationship timeline and cross check it against your forms, relationship statements, and witness statements to ensure consistency across key dates and milestones.
We look at whether the four pillars of relationship have been evidenced properly and clearly. Importantly, we also look at whether there are any gaps in the evidence and if the application is decision ready.
Sometimes bigger complexities emerge
One of the reasons Partner Visa reviews can be so valuable is because sometimes larger issues only become obvious once the full application is assessed properly.
In some cases, couples may not realise that certain aspects of their application could create complications with the Department. I often reminds me of the saying ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’.
Because of the influx of information online about Partner Visas, couples will sometimes have a false sense of security that their application meets all the requirements. I’ve seen it a few too many times where a couple will tell me that their application is completely straight-forward and they just want a review done.
However once I’ve reviewed the application, I’ve identified a number of complex issues that needed attention.
In one case, there were significant gaps in the relationship history where the couple were separated for 7 months. When there’s periods of time spent apart, it’s important to provide evidence the relationship continued during that time.
In another case, the couple were in no doubt a genuine and continuing relationship, but actually provided very limited evidence around the financial and household pillar which jeopardised their entire application.
Can you complete just a review for my Partner Visa?
It’s important to also note here that a review in isolation does not necessarily help couples, and this is why we intentionally don’t offer this as a service.
We will review your application, but it’s important that for you to have gotten to the point of a review, that you have followed the evidence planning checklist that was sent to you after your planning session and that you put the application together using our guides and instructions.
By the same token, if we are reviewing your application after you have submitted, it’s equally as important to schedule the planning session after the review is done so we can talk you through our report and come up with a post-lodgement strategy.

Whether before or after lodgement, a Partner Visa review can help identify weaknesses, improve clarity, reduce stress, and ensure the strongest possible application is being presented to the Department.
